Commonly, most children have been infected with RSV virus by age 3. Respiratory syncytial virus causes infections of lungs and respiratory tract. This virus can also infect adults.
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can easily infect during the cold weather. Especially, rainy season that we can easily be infected from touching, secretion, and respiratory system. The virus can be alive around 2-6 days, so after getting infected with RSV some of the children or babies are in danger. This virus can develop itself to be a severe disease which can occur pneumonitis, and bronchiolitis.
Symptoms of RSV (Begin 2-6 days after exposure)
- Runny nose or nasal congestion
- Chest congestion
- Difficulty breathing
- Sore throat
- Mild headache
There is no specific treatment or vaccine for Respiratory syncytial virus. Symptoms usually improve within 1-2 weeks. Antibiotics are not helpful for RSV infections but common-sense precautions can help prevent the spread of this virus.
